First Steps to Public Art: Uptown is Next!
Two sculptures have been approved by the Michigan City Park Board for Washington Park, and, Uptown is expected to be up next with at the most 10 sculpture installations.
MCMA Hosts Other Indiana Main Streets for a Community Exchange
On Friday May 18, 2013, representatives of Mainstreet associations from across the state gathered in Michigan City for what Tiffany Bley, executive director of the Michigan City Mainstreet Association, called a “community exchange” event, aimed at helping Mainstreet groups network and exchange ideas.
Art After Dark at the Oasis Lounge & Maxine’s After First Friday ART Walk in June
It is all ART as usual in the Uptown Art District for the First Friday ART Walk June 7th from 5pm to 8pm (the district spans with businesses from 11th Street and Franklin to the Lake, Spring to Wabash Streets). Artists Call Out For Sculptor Project In Uptown
Michigan City’s Public Art Committee (MAC) seeks submissions for the 2013-2014 public art project “Sculptfusion” which will be located in the Uptown Arts District of Michigan City Indiana. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $2,000. The installed artwork may be available for sale.
Farmer’s Market Will Stay In Regular Location
Michigan City’s Mainstreet Association and the farmers who bring their fresh produce to the city’s Farmer’s Market came to terms Monday and agreed to keep the market in its usual location in the corner lot off Washington and Eighth streets this season. At a meeting at the Michigan City Public Library that was closed to the media, the farmers made their case that they were against a proposal to move the market to the 700 block of Franklin Street and voiced some concerns about it becoming more of an “artisan” event with artwork and crafters.
City Planner Outlines How To Revitalize The North Side
Michigan City Planning Director Craig Phillips discussed current and potential efforts to revitalize the city’s north end during the League of Women Voters’ monthly Lunch with the League event at Ivy Tech on Tuesday. He told the women about a trip he and several city officials took in November to Kenosha and Racine, Wis., two “case study” communities that underwent transformations in the 1990s and 2000s, and discussed what was learned during the visit.
Tourists And Locals Love The South Shore Line
From its beginnings, more than 100 years ago, the line has always held itself to high standards. It can cover the 90 miles between Chicago and South Bend in a little over 2 hours. When you leave the Chicago stations and head to Gary, the South Shore really feels like a suburban commuter line. However, when you get to Michigan City, the train still runs down the middle of 10th and 11th streets. In Michigan City, passengers still board streetcar-style, the only place in the United States where this is still done according to John Parsons, South Shore marketing manager.
